LONDON (AP) — He might have got away with it if it hadn't been for his supermarket loyalty card.

A British fraudster who pretended to be quadriplegic and sometimes comatose for two years to avoid prosecution has been convicted after police caught him on camera driving and strolling around supermarkets.

Alan Knight of Swansea, Wales, stole more than 40,000 pounds ($64,000) from the bank account of an elderly neighbor with Alzheimer's disease, prosecutors said.

When police began investigating, the 47-year-old Knight claimed to be quadriplegic and so sick he sometimes fell into a coma. He checked himself into a hospital to avoid court appearances, saying he was having seizures.

The South Wales Evening Post reported Wednesday that the suspect's wife, Helen Knight, had written to the newspaper saying her husband had obtained a doctor's letter certifying he was "quadriplegic and in a comatose condition, bed-bound at home" after a neck injury.

"We've been through absolute hell and we're still going through hell," she wrote, according to the newspaper.

Knight's deceit was uncovered when police tracked the use of his supermarket card, and produced surveillance camera footage of him walking and driving.

Warned that the trial would go ahead whether he was present or not, Knight arrived at Swansea Crown Court Tuesday in a wheelchair and neck brace. Faced with the video evidence, he pleaded guilty to 19 counts of forgery, fraud and theft. His wife has not been charged with any offense.

Judge Paul Thomas said Knight was "a very accomplished and determined actor ... and the conditions he claims to be suffering from are simply nonexistent."

"His illnesses coincide with impending court appearances. I do not believe the symptoms are genuine," the judge was quoted as saying by the South Wales Evening Post.

Knight is due to be sentenced Nov. 7.

Woman finds 3 inch leech in her nose after Asia holiday

It’s hard to imagine that you could have a 3 inch creature in your nose for a month and not realise it! Well a backpacker from Scotland who had been seeing the sights of Vietnam and Cambodia found on returning home that a leech had found a nice comfortable new home in her nose!
The unfortunate host of the leech was 24 year old Daniela Liverani from Edinburgh and believed that the nosebleeds from which she was suffering were down to a crash she had been involved in and thought a leaking blood vessel was the cause.
However when she took a shower she noticed that the rather dark thing in her nose was not a blood clot but an animal of some description. . That was the moment when Miss Liverani realised it was not a blood clot, but that she was housing a parasite.
Reporting to accident and emergency, the staff there set to work to try and remove the creature with forceps and tweezers. Now of course it is not every day, that as a medic you are presented with this sort of task and although it apparently took about thirty minutes they eventually presented Miss Liverani with the parasite that she had been housing for a few weeks.
So did she decide to keep Mr Curly as she called him, well no, she decided that the best course of action was to boil him and set him to rest in the Edinburgh City Council waste bin. A fitting end to the hitch hiker Daniela brought back from her travels.

 Puffer fish

 
Puffer fish is the second most poisonous vertebrate in the world. It’s internal organs and skin contains highly poisonous tetrodotoxin. Surprisingly putter fish still used as a food item in China, Japan and Korea. The awful recipe is called as ‘fugu’ in Japan.
Only the specially trained chefs have the rights to cook and serve fugu dish. It is quite hard to qualify in testing to deal with puffer fish. More than 70 percentage of test end with death of trainees.
Putter fish contains toxic elements 100 times than that of cyanides. One putter fish itself enough to kill up to 30 people. The consumption of puffer fish without taking precautions result in decreasing of blood pressure, vomiting , stop the body from taking breath and end up with death. In some cases the toxin of puffer fish paralyses the body or it causes coma.

Elderberry aka sambucus is a flowering plant that grows in subtropical regions around the world. It is commonly used to make medicines, soda and liquer.
The parts of elderberries excluding flower and berries are very poisonous, consumption will cause severe health problems. Also the usage of elderberry juice for long time will cause vomiting and diarrhea.
